We can learn a lot from the great TV shows like Sex and the City, particularly us girls. Whether we are single or not, there is plenty of relationship advice to go around for all of us.
Here are some important things to remember when it comes to dating, according to our fabulous New Yorkers: Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte.
We can’t choose who we love
Charlotte didn’t expect to fall in love with lawyer Harry when she was divorcing her first husband Trey, but she did. They ended up happily married with two kids. It could happen to anyone, including you!
Don’t expect commitment from your fling or bed buddy
It’s called casual dating for a reason. Casual daters aren’t looking for anything serious, just to have some fun to escape from the drama we call life. If that doesn’t sound like what you want, you are wasting your time, like Carrie did with John.
Money isn’t everything
Petrovsky was rich and took Carrie to Paris, but he was rude and ignored Carrie often. Things even got out of hand in their final fallout. They do say money can’t by you happiness. There is a price for everything.
Not all accents are sexy
Some things can get lost in translation, as poor Caleb demonstrates at Charlotte and Trey’s rehearsal dinner. Not even Google Translate can help.
Long distance relationships don’t always work
He’s a countryman, you’re a city girl, it just wasn’t going to last was it Samantha? Things just get too complicated and can leave you feeling paranoid or just plain unhappy.
Not all men can talk dirty
There may not be much talking in the bedroom but the words we expect to hear are dirty ones. Unfortunately it’s not an art form that all men possess. I’m not saying all women can too, like Miranda. Although, if he doesn’t know how to do it, don’t try to teach him.
Fetishes can be deal breakers
We all have our secret fantasies and fetishes, we know this. Don’t give me that look, I know you have one, don’t deny it. However some can just be too weird for our standards. Take Bill’s urine fetish for instance.
Cheesy porn situations work… for a while
Samantha got to experience this with a delivery guy, but like all good things it must come to an end some time.
Size does matter
It doesn’t matter for everybody, but I’m sorry to tell you boys that it does matter for women like Samantha.
Don’t believe everything you hear
We all have our gullible moments. Though we mustn’t trust everything that comes out of his mouth; it is bound to be a lie. Although having said that, men aren’t the only ones who are capable of sharing this trait. Women can lie too, as Miranda found when she pretended to be a stewardess.
